  • CFM has rapidly gained prominence in the Asian forestry sector, both among national planners and development agencies over the past two decades. Yet as projects have proliferated and new supportive policies begun to emerge, resistance from a variety of social and political arenas has also materialized. The discussion will examine some of the forces that are promoting and constraining the development of CFM on the ground and on the national policy and political front.

  • CFM activities are evolving throughout the region in a variety of forms including the continuing functioning of traditional and indigenous systems of management, and the expansion of more recent government, donor, and NGO supported initiatives. This panel seeks to explore how widely CFM systems are operating in Southeast Asia and their social and ecological impact.
